Meds & Food for Kids (MFK) is a St. Louis-based nonprofit that produces and distributes foods to malnourished children in Haiti. Their approach is to use local labor and local resources to manufacture Medika Mamba, a treatment for malnutrition, which in turn develops the local economy.

They have plans to build a new factory in Haiti in 2012. According to Meds & Food for Kids officials, the planned new, larger factory will be more efficient and enable production to be increased tenfold, to treat 80,000 children annually. In October, 2011 MFK held a much-celebrated ground breaking for the new factory. The factory is scheduled to be completed in July of 2012. MFK was able to begin construction thanks to a bridge loan, as they continue their fundraising efforts.

ACS donated $50,000 of their services for design development of the mechanical and electrical systems for the new factory. MFK will use these design documents as the basis to obtain design/build proposals from local contractors. ACS is pleased to be associated with this project because it benefits so many people by helping to combat malnutrition, by providing jobs, and by driving economic development in Haiti. Jim Corkery, President of ACS explains, “Our strategic plan includes giving back to the community, both locally and worldwide. It is especially rewarding when we can apply our experience to assist an organization like MFK.”

ACS has experience managing design and construction projects in food production and manufacturing, research laboratories, and engine & vehicle test facilities.
