ACS, Inc. has completed the $12.5 million Institute for Influenza Viral Research located in the University of Wisconsin's Research Park. ACS turnkey delivered the 30,000 square foot influenza research lab to meet Biosafety Level 3-Agriculture specifications.
The Institute for Influenza Viral Research was built for UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine researcher Yoshihiro Kawaoka and his team, who are recognized worldwide as leaders in the study of influenza. The World Health Organization recently designated Kawaoka's program as "one of the world's preeminent influenza projects."
"The complexity of this project required to analyze every aspect of this facility in great detail and at great length. For successful facility integration, we worked to understand the entire project and how all components and processes were going to work together before we started construction," said ACS president Jim Corkery. "ACS was instrumental in meeting our aggressive timelines for addressing Professor Kawaoka's needs and ACS's integration skills resulted in minimal facility issues during federal regulatory inspections", said Greg Hyer, Associate Director, University Research Park.
The project began construction in fall of 2006 was substantially completed in December of 2007. The centers for Disease Control (CDC) provided their initial inspection in May of 2008 with their second inspection scheduled for September of 2008. Final acceptance by CDC is expected in the Fall of 2008. This facility was financed by UW-Madison and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.
