Madison, WI. - ACS, Inc. recently completed a 30,000 GSF multi-use research renovation project within the existing Basic Science Building (BSB) and MACC Fund Research Center (MFRC) on the Medical College of Wisconsin campus in Wauwatosa, WI. ACS provided overall project leadership including design management and construction management from concept design through commissioning over the 14 month project schedule. Key program elements of the project included aesthetic enhancement to the existing Vivarium, relocated aquatics space, new state-of-the art shared Surgery spaces and major mechanical infrastructure improvements to provide much needed backup and redundancy to ensure critical environmental conditions were maintained. The aquatics researchers study fish to find better ways to treat and solve diseases like glaucoma, stroke, heart attack and stress related conditions.
The Medical College of Wisconsin is home to 5,300 faculty and staff. Key to the success of this project was up-front communication with key stakeholders at MCW. These stakeholders included project management and facilities staff as well as the research staff. This upfront communication facilitated a multi-phase construction approach, allowing staff to maintain their research in controlled environments. This ensured that all stakeholders achieved a successful outcome on the project.
ACS utilized Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) techniques to deliver this project successfully. This approach provided an efficient and expeditious project delivery that ensured successful integration of the facilities systems and key equipment. Because of this approach, MCW was able to utilize the spaces on time and without interruption.
ACS is a nationally recognized firm that provides integrated design, construction and operations solutions for companies that require technically complex facilities, systems and equipment.
