Controls Engineer



We seek a Controls Engineer interested in a rewarding career in a fast-paced, team environment.   The individual will work with teams of engineers of varied disciplines to provide excellent client service, from the design concept stage through commissioning and job closeout.  

Essential job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:  Programming/integrating PLC's (Allen Bradley, Siemens,) and HMI's; creating Bills of Material (BOMs) and purchasing control system components; creating panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and design specifications.  Requires an understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and their associated controls including a thorough understanding of P&IDs and process controls.  Will work with other project engineers and technicians to design, set up and perform system functionality tests on equipment in our fabrication facility, and at customer sites to verify proper system operation as defined by control sequences.

Basic requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the design/build/programming of PLC systems with field experience, from design to start up.
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to apply the National Electric Code (NEC) and UL508A as well as best practices for control panel design is required.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks as well as a proven record of excellent client service is a must.  
  • A strong, proven mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to travel to customer facilities for design meetings, equipment installation supervision, and commissioning.

Controls Technician

Generate field sketches and diagrams to communicate systems installation requirements to construction personnel. Perform onsite startup and validation of equipment, including stays for up to two weeks at a time, at certain stages of projects.  I/O checkout and troubleshooting, calibration of instrumentation.  Ability to diagnose and perform hands-on repairs of all types of equipment and instrumentation (mechanical and electrical test equipment measurement devices, actuators, control systems, motor drives, pumps, valves, regulators, etc.).  Will work with other technicians and engineers to design, set up and perform system functionality tests on equipment in our fabrication facility, and at customer sites to verify proper system operation as defined by control sequences.

Basic requirements include:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years field experience in the commissioning and startup of PLC systems.

General Construction Project Engineer



We seek a General Construction Project Engineer interested in a rewarding career in fast-paced, team environment. The individual will provide coordination of multiple aspects of construction management for projects. The position will initially require the individual to spend time in both the Madison, WI (ACS’s home office) and in the Chicago, IL area (the project job site) from the summer of 2012 through the spring of 2013.

HVAC Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical Engineer - Vibration



We seek a Mechanical Engineer - Vibration interested in a rewarding career in a fast-paced, team environment.  The individual will serve the needs of internal and external clients requesting assistance with vibration analysis, testing, and successful application of solutions.

Essential job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Modeling and analysis of linear and torsional vibration.  Analysis includes, but is not limited to, FEA model development and modeling to predict component and system interactions.
  • Vibration testing and analysis including spectral, modal, and rotational analysis.
  • Structural vibration isolation and dampening analysis for facilities & equipment, including inertia mass isolation.
  • Design and successful implementation of vibration mitigation solutions.
  • Use and assist clients with measurement systems, data logging and analysis.
  • Recognize data quality issues and address them in a timely manner.
  • Interface with and manage third-party vibration consultants and specialists.
  • Ability and desire to remain up-to-date with engine and vehicle vibration related testing requirements and regulations.

  • Work to meet client deadlines including balancing multiple priorities and responding to changes in deadline, scope and design as they occur.  Often working on two or more projects in a given time period, depending upon project size and deadline.
  • Use good written skills to a) write and edit design specifications; b) respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) incorporating information from project documents, specifications, shop drawings and design criteria; and c) write meeting notes. Review or delegate the review of shop drawing submittals.
  • Read and distribute relevant project correspondence and maintaining project files.
  • Responsible for maintaining engineering drawings associated with test cell/facility integrated test equipment.
  • Make certain that drawings are updated to reflect permanent field modifications.
  • Able to work flexible hours as part of a group that must provide 24/7 support to the integrated test equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years experience to include FEA model development and software analysis skills for vibrations.
  • Experience in the application of vibration sensors, and instrumentation.  Engine testing would be strongly desired. 
  • Have an understanding of vibration testing standards (ANSI, ISO, etc.), measurement practices, sensors, and equipment.

Mechanical Engineer (Entry Level)

 


ACS seeks an Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer to perform the following:

  • Performs detailed engineering functions including: engineering calculations, develops flow diagrams and P&ID’s, uses ProE to develop 3D models, selects and purchases devices, and works with Verona Fabrication Facility to design for manufacturability.
  • Defines design criteria and develops feasible design concepts based on client’s needs and requirements.
  • Develops cost estimates for equipment concepts and works with the project manager and other team members to develop proposals.
  • Creates and executes equipment project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Oversees fabrication of designed equipment in Verona shop through work order creation and management and regular communication with shop personnel.
  • Oversees and performs Factory Acceptance Testing at Verona as required to ensure equipment is functioning to client’s specifications before shipment.
  • Works on multiple projects in a given time period, depending upon project size and deadline.

Basic requirements include:

Mechanical Engineer HVAC (Entry Level)

Project Manager - United Kingdom

 

ACS seeks a talented and versatile individual with 10 or more years of experience as a mechanical engineer or process engineer who has progressed into Project Management.  The candidate hired for this position would enjoy a unique training and work experience, by first working at our Madison, Wisconsin (USA) corporate office  for a period of up to 2-3 years, and then relocating to our Leicester (England) office to support that office’s UK and EU operations.  Relocation costs and related expenses are paid by ACS.  Travel to locations such as the UK, China and India to serve our client needs and manage projects will be a requirement of this position.  This position is intended to be based at our offices in Leicester, England, after the initial work/training in the United States.

Responsibilities include a high level of project management responsibility, to include leading teams of internal and/or external architects, engineers and contractors of varied disciplines to provide excellent client service from the design concept stage through commissioning and job closeout, provide accurate and detailed cost estimating for various projects, maintain quality subcontractor and vendor relationships, execute details of construction job contract on client’s behalf, and work on multiple projects in a given time period, depending upon project size and deadline.

Basic requirements must include a four-year university degree in mechanical engineering or construction-management related field (required for proper work visas), 10 or more years experience as an engineer having progressed to Project Manager with an engineering/ construction design firm or automotive test facility, proven record of excellent client and subcontractor relationships, detailed knowledge of acceptable construction industry practices, experience in preparing accurate cost estimates and the ability to review design documents to ensure the project is “buildable” when considering the client’s budget and schedule.  Will need to be  knowledgeable regarding applicable codes and regulations in the client’s locale.  Must be able to travel extensively.  ACS will pay costs associated with obtaining the proper work visas and temporary assignment to the U.S. for training.
