ACS Wins Award for Acoustic Testing Equipment Lab

ACS completed some of Wisconsin’s most impressive and unique construction work in 2017. ACS received a Project of Distinction Award by Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin for its Raising the Roof to Build a State-of-the-Art Acoustics Lab – Briggs & Stratton project in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

ACS was uniquely positioned to deliver the acoustic testing equipment addition to the Briggs and Stratton facility. As experienced turnkey builders of complex facilities, ACS overcame obstacles throughout the building process with innovative and cost-saving solutions. In fact, ACS literally lifted off the roof of the facility to get the job done. To access the area and install acoustic testing equipment during the renovation, ACS brought in a helicopter to do the heavy lifting, saving time and money by avoiding the need for an oversized and costly crane.

“This project is a good example of our ability to leverage our expertise and experience with designing and building test facilities and equipment for engine and vehicle manufacturers. The fact that we are based right here in Wisconsin gave us the opportunity to work with many great local contracting firms,” stated Bob Roth, Principal at ACS and Director of Project Delivery. The renovation within an existing manufacturing setting consolidated lab spaces, increased testing capacity, added measurement and analysis capability, and improved energy efficiency.

“Labs used for NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness) testing have very specific requirements for square footage and height of the test space to allow simulation of the real-world environment in which the product will be used,” said Randy Rozema, a Mechanical Engineer specializing in vibrations/acoustics and Principal at ACS. “By working closely with our customer to understand their needs, we helped them achieve their goals for NVH testing in this new state-of-the art anechoic chamber.”

The Projects of Distinction Awards, which recognizes projects built on merit, were presented February 15 at the Glacial Canyon Conference Center in Wisconsin Dells. Nearly 400 attendees were on hand to experience the many high-quality projects that ABC member contractors delivered for business and industry. In all, 45 projects were recognized with awards.

“There are six independent expert judges who use stringent criteria such as onsite safety, unusual circumstances or challenges and the overall quality of construction delivered to the customer,” said John Mielke, ABC of Wisconsin President. “Projects that receive awards are not only unique, but impressive!”
