Advancing Robotics and the Future of STEM

ACS is committed to our next generation finding its passion in robotics, controls, and automation by sponsoring a competition in Michigan. 

FIRST Robotics Competition combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology, in what FIRST calls the ultimate Sport for the Mind.™ Teams are challenged to raise funds, form a team, and ultimately build a robot in an intense 6-week competition.

Our very own Andrew Harris, an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer at ACS, championed the idea of ACS sponsoring a local team in the FIRST competition. Thanks to Andrew’s enthusiasm, ACS learned how valuable FIRST robotics is in nurturing the minds of young members of the STEM community and giving kids the chance to experience the full cycle of new technology development. 

After years of participating himself, Andrew jumped at the opportunity to mentor a local team, Antherton Robotics Team 5660, and share this excellent opportunity in developing knowledge and skills in 

electrical work, machining, mechanical engineering and many other invaluable skills in the community. As Andrew puts it, “FIRST robotics was something I could easily connect to – it prepared me for college and steered me to the field of engineering, for which I am eternally thankful.”

Antherton’s 2018 goal is to make it to the World Competition in Detroit. ACS is pleased to offer financial support to help the team realize its dream.
