Transgenic Facility Expansion

Medical College of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, WI

ACS led the design and construction efforts in the expansion and renovation of a transgenic mouse and rat facility within the existing MACC Fund building on the Medical College of Wisconsin’s campus.  The project was undertaken to meet growing demands at the college for research animals and to further isolate the rat and mouse species.


Key Performance Features:

  • Project consisted of 4,200 sq. ft. of new transgenic space and renovation of 5,300 sq. ft. of existing transgenic space
  • Transgenic barrier facility included: three rat holding rooms, six mouse holding rooms, two procedure rooms, clean storage, growing/air shower, animal feed storage and offices
  • New supply and exhaust air systems were installed to provide additional capacity and redundancy
  • Specialized requirements in the facility include rack-mounted HEPA supply 
  • and exhaust air filtration and space pressurization as required to maintain the transgenic barrier
