Our client, a UK-based supplier of vehicles had completed a basic concept layout for their new NVH Technical Center and were proceeding with more detailed design. ACS was engaged for our technical acoustics and vibration expertise as it relates to understanding test cells and NVH testing, as well as our knowledge and experience with systems integration of facility infrastructure and test equipment. ACS assisted with defining the test equipment that would be required in each of the unique twenty-seven test spaces within the new building.
Throughout the detailed design phase, ACS provided insight to test equipment placement and integration of utilities required to support the test equipment. The focus of the client’s NVH Technical Center was to consolidate all NVH testing from across the business units into one central center of excellence on their campus. This facility was focused on complete NVH development from ride quality to infotainment sound quality and function.

Key Performance Features
The focus of the testing in the facility was complete vehicle design. Testing spaces ranged in capability from modal analysis to exhaust tuning, full vehicle sound studies, transmission and powertrain development, and thermal effects, to name a few. Multiple NVH chassis dynamometer test cells were designed to support various road conditions. Thermal chambers were designed to evaluate buzz squeak and rattle of vehicle interiors using four post shakers.
ACS provided design phase consulting, acoustic analysis, product specification, design integration, and planning for test equipment commissioning for a new facility intended to consolidate all NVH test capabilities, including twenty-seven test cells, into a single new technical center.
