Project Overview

Our client wanted to test the dynamics of their off-road products and individual components using a ground simulation system. The goal was to reduce the need for driving expensive prototype vehicles in the field for hours of testing around the world.

Working with the client, ACS provided a turnkey R&D durability test stand solution that simulated real-world conditions using specific ground profiles developed by the client. The focus was to replicate real-world wear and tear, especially the stress of extreme usage cases. Several mechanical-hydraulic mechanisms combined with unique controls allow test stand flexibility to simulate these conditions.

The primary controller for the test system is an Allen Bradley PLC installed in the main control cabinet. The electrical cabinet is located outside of the test enclosure. Operator interface with the control system is through an HMI application located on the test PC in the control room.

The durability test stand system has a common Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) placed externally to the test enclosure. Individual mechanical loading points are easily adjusted for the dimensions of each article under test. The client installed the entire R&D test stand into a controlled environment at their facility to further simulate the challenging conditions experienced in the field.
